  • The writing style was enjoyable like always and very detailed so that one can imagine the surroundings and scenery quite well, as well as getting to know the country and its people this way.
  • Not to mention that one part of the love triangle is a major douchebag, that at first seemed sweet and kind, but is not, while for the other one it’s actually the other way around. There is a love triangle, but it didn’t bother me much, because it does not take up the whole story and only appears now an then. He travels with his friends and warrior companions, I especially liked Levan who was a very friendly warrior and Brachan, the oldest of the group and very wise. I was really digging their slow burn romance. During the time spent with the healer he opens up to her and shows that he is in fact a very loyal and protective man. However, as the novel goes on one can see beneath his rough surface and notices that he has been through so much - life has shaped his skin to become as hard as steel. The male protagonist is Mordan, the military leader of his nation and at first a very warlike, impolite man, that does not do gentle. That mix of characteristics made me really like her and feel with her. Lijanas is the female protagonist and very headstrong, but also kind and always wants to help others. Really the souleaters made my skin crawl by how scary they were. Also the creatures featured were very interesting such as the soulwitches and their bonded mates as well as the souleaters (a very cool version of hellhounds).

Still I loved the story of the many different nations and their countries, as well as the landscape of the countries. I felt like Lynn Raven could have expanded this book to be a duology or a trilogy (the same way I felt about “Blutbraut” my favorite book of her, which left some things open = perfect for a sequel) but this authors likes to break my heart. “Der Kuss des Kjer” is a high fantasy novel and I really enjoyed getting to know the world step by step and I still did not get enough of it.

I had meant to read it for a long time but only found the will to read this huge (606 pages) book during Tome Topple, so thanks to that!

I already adored Lynn Raven’s books before reading this one, so I knew I was going to love it as well.
